Let's Talk Hands-on classes: Slow Your Role! Treatment is The Goal
Aug 10, 2025Through The Massage Success Express, my goal is to teach Massage Therapists how to survive and thrive in their business by teaching them the business skills necessary to get there. However, I know the other component of a successful massage practice is the knowledge, skills, and results we can give our clients. You may be great at getting clients in, but what does your retention look like? Are clients booking 2-8 weeks out with you? If not, why? At the end of the day, it comes down to educating our clients and delivering results to make sure they stay on your schedule.
My Slow Your Role, Treatment is the Goal classes are the culmination of what I've learned in both trigger point work and myofascial release from some of the best teachers and my own experience in the field for the past 15 years. I use these techniques every day for excellent client results that keep me booked out for months. Most of my new clients will say that they have never experienced a massage quite like mine because it feels deep, yet relaxing. The most important of all, addressing the issues they came in to see me about.
Of course, I didn't invent anything new. Most of the techniques I'll teach you can probably be found on YouTube or by learning from other outstanding teachers in our field. However, my motivation for creating this class was to show therapists that not only can they work deeply on their clients, but they can do so without physically burning out.
That's where myofascial release comes in. The premise is to work with lighter pressure, but sinking into the tissues to go deeper. As you can guess, this requires you to slow down. When you hold a comfortable, consistent pressure for your client, it has a sedating effect on your client's nervous system, which will allow you to sink into their tissues even further. Oftentimes, I do this in areas that have a lot of contracted muscle tissue. Not only will you be using your thumbs less, but you will also learn to use your palms, knuckles, forearms, and elbows more efficiently.
When clients come in for treatment, the most essential way to connect with them is to identify the areas of pain and provide targeted treatment. Clients love that we are listening and working on those "achy" spots. This is where having a detailed intake is crucial. Why is the pain there? What is the client doing or not doing that is contributing to the problem? Pain is multifaceted and can happen for so many varied reasons. Your client's lower back pain may be from super-tight Quadriceps, Hamstrings, or Glutes. Your client's Headaches may be coming from super-tight Trapezius, Pecs, and SCM. Or...none of the above. This is where we'll dive into the neuromuscular aspect of the class and explore myofascial techniques. You can play muscle detective with your client and try to figure out the mystery, looking for referral patterns. In Slow Your Role: Treatment is The Goal, we'll go over common referrals and how to treat them to provide our clients with real results.
Ultimately, the more effective we can be in our sessions, the better your retention rate. That means you don't have to work so hard in your marketing because clients will keep coming back! Not only that, but if you can help them with their issue, that word of mouth advertising from your clients will start to pick up! I hope to see you in a future hands-on class!
